Pennsylvania Statewide Sex Education Bills

Support Comprehensive Sex Education!
PARSE along with the ACLU of Pennsylvania and Planned Parenthood of PA hosted a lobby day to demonstrate support for state Representative Chelsa Wagner’s bill — the Healthy Youth Act.  This is a major step to improving sexuality education in Pennsylvania! The recent lobby day was held in Harrisburg on Monday, May24, 2010.

The Healthy Youth Act (HB 1163) would require all schools that teach HIV/AIDS education to also teach age-appropriate, scientifically accurate sexuality education. This would include contraceptive methods as a means to lowering the risk of STI transmission and unintended pregnancy. It would also include an opt-out option for parents who oppose such instruction

Please join us to help get this bill passed! You can assist by writing letters to the editor, meeting with your local paper’s editorial board to spur the writing of an Op-Ed, or take the time to visit your legislator in-district! Any way that you can help truly does make a difference!

We would be delighted to assist you with setting up an appointment. If you are interested in having an appointment set up for you please email Duvall@aclupa.org. Also, after your visit, be sure to send us back detailed information about how it went – for those of you who attended lobby day this would be similar to the information in your Lobby Visit report forms.
